Female Contraception
Although development only began fifty years ago, oral contraceptives commonly known as "the pill" have become the most widely used and effective method of female contraception in use today taken by women to prevent pregnancy. Pregnancy is hindered by the prevention of ovulation and thickening of the cervical mucous hindering the passage of sperm to the uterus. Studies have shown the pill to be more than 90% effective as birth control when taken as directed.
